Prior to establishing JPA Mining Consultants PLC, he worked with Rio Tinto PLC for 20 years, where he served as manager for three departments: Mine Development, Mine Dewatering, and Reclamation, including Project Manager for the Rio Tinto-Lepanto JV from June 2001 to September 2003.  Mr. Almaas has worked or consulted on 45 mines in 16 countries, and was the principal designer of four underground and two open pit mines in diverse regions and climates.
