PRESERVATION OF OUR CULTURE

The Canao dance of the Kankanaeys

Lepanto respects the culture and tradition of the Cordillera.

The Cañao is a socio-religious dance indigenous to the Kankanaeys of the Cordillera. This ritual is being practiced in occasions such as marriage, feast and death where chickens, pigs or carabaos are butchered and feasted on.

The Inabel’s attraction, beyond its vibrant colors and rigid patterns, are the skill, discipline and pride that go into its weaving, which the Cordillera women have passed on from generation to generation.

The Cañao and the Inabel are only two of the many facets of the Cordillera culture that Lepanto helps preserve for future generations.
